Many of you are making the Quiltmania Yoko Saito Mystery Quilt and some are just following along with the videos to perhaps pick up some helpful tips and techniques.
I have received lots of emails asking about the fabrics used in the quilt. I suspect that the original quilt was made entirely of Yoko Saito's own Centenary line of fabrics from Lecien, however, any assortment of lovely Taupe fabrics that are pleasing to your eye will do. The Quiltmania videos, of course, are recorded in France, so the fabrics used by the demonstrator are a mix of Taupe prints, yarn dyes, and natural homespuns.
For the block backgrounds I recommend using subtle plaids and prints in med/light to light shades to allow your applique to show well. For the applique fabrics, I suggest using our Fat Eighth Taupe Fabric Packs, which have ample size pieces for using on any of the motifs in this quilt. Having them organized by color group makes it easy to purchase a nice assortment within one color range, so you will have many greens to use for plants and trees, some grays or browns for houses, walls, tree trunks, etc. Reds, blues and yellows for flowers, birds, leaves.
It is always nice to build a small stash of these colors to draw from for later projects as well.
Here are the two video tutorials produced by Quiltmania Magazine for block#2 Mystery Quilt by Yoko Saito.

It is called Houses, Houses, Houses! and is available online. https://www.oneworldfabrics.com/shop/product/houses-houses-houses-yoko-saito/ We can ship this book, along with up to about 3-4 meters of fabric to Australia in a padded flat rate envelope for shipping of US$16.95.
